more softness

I feel awe every day
when I look out at the sun glittering on the water
and every night when the moon does the same thing.
I live in a lonely beauty.
Manitou means God.  Manitoulin Island is Spirit Island,

and this spiritual place is embedded in my stitched art.
This work also is based on the ideas of destruction and reparation
and more softness.
honesty.

More humility.
Life changes in an ordinary instant.
We bleed.
My work is done in a rush of slow.

It gives me self-healing.
I hope that it communicates something to the inner inner of my viewers.
This piece arrived for me without too much thinking,
in a rush,
It came out of an almost erotic inner dreamworld
very sensuous and intuitive,
and then my hands touched and touched it.

I stitched and stitched
through the spring
throughout the summer
and now it is September
and all the while i knew it was art and yet it was also something else.
A healing cloth.
I felt myself becoming whole.
inner symbols
cosmic
circle-heart
almost a mandala
My work holds the whirl of each day
the rush of time
the emotions of life

I'm just doing the best I can.

wrecked

People are not aware of their abstract emotions,
which are a big part of their lives,
except when they listen to music
or look at art.

Agnes Martin

A woman made utility quilts as fast as she could
so that her familly wouldn't freeze, and
she made them as beautiful as she could
so that her heart wouldn't break.

glad to be walking on my road again, the ice has gone.

quilted all day

I am nearly finished Aili's quilt and spent most of today working on it.
It's out of the hoop, bound with bias.  I am finishing the quilting at the edges and the corners.
We were driving north as I stitched.
I like to pull the stitches snugly in this piece.  I want the cotton fabric to have the texture of time.
I stop often to admire the square red dots and their pale log-shaped surrounds.
We started with weather, but as we got closer to home, Ned had to put on his sun glasses.
Dad is back in hospital.  I notice that there is a new leather sofa for visitors.
I notice that my stitching has distorted the corners.  I can fix that.

ethereal

someone recently used the word ethereal to describe my work
in the bedroom window
What does ethereal mean?  I had to look it up.
Google definition:
extremely delicate and light in a way that seems too perfect for this world
in living room picture window
dainty
elegant
graceful
fragile
where I stitch every day
airy
fine
subtle
unearthly
I finished grand-daughter Aili's quilt top last week.  A hand pieced log cabin shown here.
Aili is an Irish girl's name, also common in Finland and Estonia.
Aili means 'light'.
