Queen Street

Ontario Craft 07 opens tonight in Toronto. The Ontario Craft Council has a new gallery on Queen Street, a prime location. There were three jurors of this exhibition. SANDRA AINSLEY, a Toronto-based gallery owner who turned her passion for glass art into a thriving business. DAVID KAYE, the owner of the David Kaye Gallery, Toronto that exhibits leading makers objects, jewellery and paintings. David is also a fibre-artist by training. LISA PAI who has co-owned and operated the Lafreniere & Pai Gallery in Ottawa for 7 years, and has had over fifteen years of experience in the Canadian art market. This quilt is in the exhibition.

Moisture for Toronto

I prepared two parcels for shipping this morning. One was some work for assessment by OPUS, that wonderful online university degree that keeps me from going crazy.
The other (pictured) is my piece for Ontario Craft 07, which will show in the OCC's gallery in Toronto until the end of this year. This is a juried exhibition and I plan to attend the opening in mid November.

Protection Blankets

I love the design of this invitation for the Protection Blankets exhibition. I'm very happy to have been invited to show my embroidered quilts in such a beautiful gallery setting. A one-person show and a serious review are rare. Quilts should be in art galleries. Quilts are an amazing vehicle for women artists. Artists, curators, and critics should pay more attention to quilt making as a viable alternate to painting and sculpture.



I just hope that my black DRESS holds up for the two openings.

Ivan Jurakic, curator of Cambridge Galleries, asked for a promotional image and I sent him this detail of Moisture and Greenness. The Protection Blankets exhibition opens May 5 at the Preston location. I've put details of both May exhibitions into the update blog in my sidebar. By the way, Cambridge galleries has an excellent collection of contemporary textile art by Canadian artists.

coming the distance

Ned drove the ten hours to visit me here in this strange land of elder care. It was wonderful to see him and be reminded of the moisture and greenness of Manitoulin. Otherwise overwhelmed.

Moisture and Greenness

We're getting ready for the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition July 7, 8, 9. I'll be showing this new quilt along with several others.

The world always needs moisture and greenness.

Blue water

Our youngest daughter is home from Egypt. We took our boat over to Killarney for fish and chips.

Cotton vs Linen

I have included shibori dyed cotton and pieced hand dyed linen pinwheels in the same quilt.

The back is also hand dyed linen.

I love the "old" look that comes with laundering which becomes exaggerated because linen shrinks more than cotton does.

Water

We took the boat over to Heywood Island today and had a picnic in celebration of Ned's birthday.
