tradition

Some things are constant.
Some things are true.
Some things are traditional.
vintage cotton quilt, hand pieced and quilted, collection of judy martin
Traditions are about time.  They repeat.
Our experience of a tradition is different each time,  yet it is also still the same.
Pictured is a hand stitched quilt that was not made by me.  I found it in an antique store and like to bring it out at Christmas.

Thank you for reading this blog in 2015. Your support means a lot to me.
I wish you happiness as we enter this week of traditions.

the archetype of the cross

the cross is a universal symbol from the most remote times
the weaving on right is by Susan Johnson  Pot Calls Kettle Black
it is a cosmic symbol, a point of communication between heaven and earth
a symbol of archetypal man/woman capable of infinite and harmonious expansion on both the horizontal and vertical planes
the vertical line is celestial, spiritual, intellectual, positive, active, male
the horizontal line is earthly, rational, intuitive, negative, passive, female
the combination of these two lines - androgyne

the cross represents dualism in nature
this cross - purchased through 10,000 villages,  - made in Africa
It is union of opposites
the four elements of the world are united at the 5th point, the centre.

power cloth

More African textiles from my living room. Repetition. Earthiness. The lower two are made from raffia. The mud cloth in the uppertwo images was purchased in Toronto. Both velvet Kuba cloths were gifts from Marilyn. THANK YOU dear one.

BTW, My next to last assessment came in today from England. No marks were given, but lots of comments.
"a powerful body of work that holds great potential" was one.
"It does need some editing" was another.
