how I spent Canada Day

At the cottage.
for Canada Day - July 1
Our son and his family visited.
We made a cake for Canada's birthday and blew out the candles.
We made two more flags for our expanding family.
 I didn't stitch.
(much)
The kids page was updated a couple of weeks ago, for those interested.

prayer for the 21st century

May gardens be wild, like jungles,
May nature never be tamed,
May dangers create of us heroes
May fears always have names
May the mountains stand to remind us
Of what it means to be young,
May we be outlived by our daughters,
May we be outlived by our sons.

by John Marsden

Tomorrow is Canada Day and in my country we will be celeberating 150 years.  Canada is a young country with a history older than 150 years....short memories, high hopes.

prayer flag for Canada

 I finished this today
in time for International Women's Day
 for Canada
a prayer for women,
for our grand daughters
the old hankies were embroidered with circles and edged with red thread, and then buttonholed to a linen backing cloth
the backing cloth was then removed, revealing the inner - ness
I washed it and hung it on the line
then I blocked it by pinning it to the wall
stretching and smoothing with my hands instead of ironing
and noticed that some of the threads were bleeding.

that's ok

stitching in car again

One of the five stitching projects I brought with me is my daily journal, seen here at the beginning of the seventh panel. Ned and I began our ten day road trip through the central United States today. The colours are fantastic at this time of year. These Canadian trees are near Sault Ste Marie Ontario where we crossed into Michican at the international bridge. We were late leaving Manitoulin because it took so long to prepare my Quilt National piece for shipping. I am whispering this, as I am so very very thrilled to have finally made it into this prestigious show, I don't quite believe it!

No longer exists

I don't know if other artists wreck their own work, but I do. This piece from 2004 no longer exists. Our youngest would quite often tell me "don't cut that up, Mom" as she left for high school, referring to whatever it was I was working on the day before.

Lately I've visited some blogs. These three recently sent readers my way and I want to say thank you. It's great to be connected to so many like minded people.

I found these two by following some of their other links.

Link to current exhibitions

Last night I posted some new information into Judy's Update which is now a permanent link in the sidebar of this blog. I usually have several art pieces on exhibition in different venues near and far and this is an attempt to organize them for easy access. I've asked my web master to add this new link to my website as I am planning to keep the link current and up to date.

Quilt-like things

My life story and my art are all mixed up together. My life, boring though it is, has been a constant source of inspiration. My favourite subject in other artists and writers has always been the human being. How we humans come into this world and gaze around it as children, how we mature, how we fall in love, how we deal with other humans, how we age. I observe what’s happening around me and I think about it. I think about my reaction to life, and then I make art about what I think. Sometimes I make paintings, but most of the time, I make quilt-like things.
