my own little gallery

There is a tiny gallery space in a corner of my studio. It gives me a lift to change what's on display each month. For the month of November, I'll be showing this quilt, Emily Carr Visits Me.

Really, it's a working studio and the most interesting thing for me are the two well lit pin walls and the wall of windows looking out on the North Channel. I spent 5 hours there today and am feeling great.

fragile traveller

Much of how I choose imagery for my art work is based on chance and randomness. In this way art mirrors life. We have to choose our own direction each day from a variety of events, most of which we have no control over. Some artists say that they "never make art about my life" but I believe that life experiences come out somehow in our artwork and may be reflected in the colours, or in the spacing, or in the brokenness/connectedness of the lines.

Dear Vicki

Dear Vicki

Could you please let me know the whereabouts of my quilt Emily Carr Visited Me? It was included in the Tactile Architecture in the 2007 International Quilt Festival in Houston. Was it selected to travel? Thanks.

Dear Judy,

You checked "Yes" to the question: Do you want your quilt to travel to prestigious galleries and other venues through August 2008? Therefore your quilt is currently scheduled to travel to:
International Quilt Festival/Chicago at the Rosemont Convention Center in Rosemont, Il, April 11-13, 2008;
Spring International Quilt Market 2008 at the Oregon Convention Center, Portland, OR, May 16 -18, 2008;
and International Quilt Festival/Long Beach at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center, Long Beach, CA, July 25 - 27, 2008.

Cordially,
Vicki Mangum

Ah, fill the cup

As I contemplate our daily life here in Northern Ontario I sense the fragility of this calm place. How precious and unreal it is.

toddler

My grand baby (16 months) arrives this afternoon. We are very excited and are preparing our nest for him and his parents. They'll be here until Christmas. I wonder if I'll be inspired to paint him like I did our children when they were toddlers. This painting was done in 1988.
