my new stitching chair

Another weekend is here
and the regular children and the grand children
will be visiting.
The past ten days I enjoyed my new stitching chair

Managing my brief life
Recconecting with my self
a brief gorgeous life
slow thankful work
horizon line
dream catcher
every day
'Artists, take every opportunity to be alone.'   Agnes Martin
I continue to
make heart pieces
Soft pieces that reveal my inner world and emotions
'we are made of star stuff'   carl sagen
The materials and processes come first,
and the meaning comes after.
In the indigo horizon piece
I added crater-spiral moon marks over the seed stitches
to make a thunder moon
but then I took them all out.
Now it's not a moon piece,
it's another heart piece.
'and I've lived on this earth so long
and all this time stars in the sky in daylight
when I couldn't see them
and at night when,
most nights, I didn't look'    marie howe

the most beautiful thing

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious.
It is the source of all true art and science.
He to whom the emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand wrapped in awe, is as good as dead - - - his eyes are closed.
The insight into the mystery of life, coupled though it be with fear, has also given rise to religion.

To know that what is impenetrable to us really exists,
manifesting itself as the highest wisdom and the most radiant beauty,
which our dull faculties can comprehend only in their most primitive forms.
 This knowledge,
 This feeling,
is at the center of true religiousness.
In this sense, and in this sense only
I belong to the rank of devoutly religious men.
