I used to tell my students that it was only a piece of paper when I taught watercolour. I told them this so that they would loosen up and take risks.
I used to look at my work in cloth as a way to save myself. I made quilts. They were weighty. They were precious. I looked at it as a responsible act, like parenting is.
But now I say, It's only a piece of cloth.
It doesn't need to be bed sized. It doesn't need to be heavy. It doesn't need to protect.. It can't.
What can it do? Not, what should it do?
It can communicate poetically. That's what I hope.
i see a shelter ..vague and faint and barely there. but there and real none the less. open vessels of any kind ..upside or downside , really resonate with me. very gentle, comforting only cloth.
i've missed dropping by, popping in . . . and now i see that i was meant to stop by this very day when i wrestle with "the committee member" who wags a finger and cautions me about 3 layers and finished edges and such notions. i think i'm about to hold a firing squad and get back to creating the cloth that suits and soothes me. thank you. xo

Only a cloth with a negative imprint.
Only each stitch.
It is enough.
Only cloth...true it is cloth and threads...and so, so much more.
Only...exquisite.
a portal an opening and an eternal return...it brings more because it expects nothing but touch
Love !

Oh yes. That is a poem.
so true, and there is more cloth where that came from...
