...a higher state of awareness to me, but probably different for everyone who aspires to the spiritual life.

gosh i just finished reading an article about kerouac... that touched on this...
i didn't know, but learned, that he hated being grouped with the "beat" poets, he thought his work was so much broader than the classification and struggled with understanding what beat even meant
but one day in a church he realized for him beat meant beatific
and he wrote
to be holy is to be in touch with the other world in a naive and trusting way.....

i thought this was just an amazing quotation so i jotted in my journal.

Dear Judy--you inspired me this afternoon when I checked in to my dashboard -as you often have-so I will share what ensued, and perhaps some of it will have some relevance to you, and your readers.

My spiritual life is simply my life, lived every day from moment to moment, though the rivers that feed into my consciousness are many and varied.

Worth a look over because of the interesting links.

A few quotes I like from this site, each for different reasons.
http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/keywords/spiritual.html

"Music is spiritual. The music business is not." -Van Morrison, Musician-

"There is a muscular energy in sunlight corresponding to the spiritual energy of wind." -Annie Dillard, Author of 'Pilgrims Creek'-

"Coincidences are spiritual puns." -Gilbert K. Chesterton-

Spirituality means something different to everyone.
For some, it's a personal lord, for others a feeling in the wind. Research shows that even skeptics can't stifle the sense of something greater. Humans can't help but ask big questions, even if no one's there to answer them. http://www.psychologytoday.com/basics/spirituality

What's your religion?" used to be such a simple question to answer. But now you might be "spiritual but not religious"--or raised in one faith but practicing another. Maybe you're a Methodist but think of yourself more as an evangelical, or a seeker who is anti-religion--or born again. The old categories don't seem to work because the religious landscape has changed so much. The quiz is meant to help you learn about your self, see how you compare with others, and have a little fun. Please allow about 10 minutes for completion. Afterward, you might want to visit our message boards to meet others with similar scores. http://www.beliefnet.com/section/quiz/index.asp?surveyID=27

Spiritual India-River Of Compassion
Philanthropist Charles Annenberg Weingarten and the Explore team tour India under the spiritual guidance of Swamiji Muni Baba. A 1/2 hour film from HULU (There are 5 minutes of commercial before it begins, and there is a commercial break again part way through, and very near the end--Just be patient if you decide to watch--This is the cost of free media). The film discusses, in a quiet way, the practice of some Spiritual Leaders who have committed to a way of life that involves following a spiritual path that is devoted to the service of others. It is a truly wonderful little film about living a compassionate life, practical, thoughtful, spiritual. In my life, I have been fortunate to meet many such teachers. i intend to include it in a blog post soon (in spite of the commercials). http://www.hulu.com/watch/82011/explore-spiritual-india-river-of-compassion

For me it is finding the extraordinary in the ordinary at every opportunity and feeling gratitude for it. penny

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. For me, the spiritual is in everyday, ordinary moments. I rarely experience it during a church service (sad but true). For me spirituality is being fully present and listening to the divine.
