heart to heart

I feel that it's necessary to completely cover a surface with hand stitch. This takes an extra ordinary amount of time. When people ask me "what are you making?" I say "art".
My hand's caress, a lasting mark. I keep stitching until it feels right. Here is the blanket stitch, done with red thread.

Have I made a protective covering or revealed an open wound?

Ah, the magic of stitch - it speaks in so many languages and says something different to each of us.

I can't say how soul pleasing the hand you make from your hand is---i love density of stitch by hand, it's like making cloth on cloth from cloth--and amazing how each piece lets us know hen to stop too

Yes, you are making art. I think it takes courage to say this. Your stitching is absolutely stunning and so inspiring. I really like Arlee's comment too. Whenever I visit I leave here feeling a little more restored and peaceful. I love you work and would give anything to touch it.

I get a sense of protection from this - an armor of stitch to protect the cloth. There is so much said in your dedication to covering the entire cloth with stitches by hand - something both calming and urgent about it. I like that. Your work is always amazing.

What else could it be...?!! - love your question - only very good questions can do without answers, don´t you think...?

I'm going to have to remember the "I'm making art" comment - file it away for future use. I get asked that periodically too. Usually I say that I'm just "playing," but I've learned that some people interpret "playing" as "wasting time."

a protective wound?

I like what Velma said. I'm thinking that the urge to protect wouldn't be so strong if one never knew how it is to be wounded. So both.

It's wonderful, your layer of stitch.

Hi,
I love your hand stitch, I sometimes get overwhelmed with how much hand stitch I like and think it is too much but yours is beautiful.
I have never known what to say the that question ... and it makes me a bit uncomfortable. I usually say "just making a little something" ~
Thanks for sharing!

I would love to get my hands on this. I love the feel of stitching as much as the beauty it brings to the eyes.

This reminds me of the obsessive marks in some outsider artists' works that are made for the sheer pleasure of mark making. It's a very powerful piece.
