Kandinsky

Last week I was interested in Eugene Delacroix's thoughts about the superiority of painting and music over literature. Perhaps these ideas are explained in Wassily Kandinsky's 1911 book Concerning the Spiritual in Art.

Kandinsky proposes a mystic vision of art, one that brings music and painting together to promote a spiritual change in those who experience it.

The idea is that art should touch us at a level beyond that of beauty.

Hmmm. I can understand that. Music & visual art does affect us in a very visceral way. As a writer, i do believe that you really can be truly affected by the written word as well. I know I've read books that have made me cry--or very angry. Personally, I believe that all creative expression has to potential to move someone.
