Delacroix

I find the following statement written by Eugene Delacroix in his1824 journal to be very thought - provoking. "Painting, like music, is higher than thought; and both are superior to literature in their vagueness." Athough I do consider music to be the most abstract of the arts, I hadn't thought of it as being 'higher' than literature or thought.
