artist's coat

White linen coat, made from one long piece of fabric half of which was slit vertically, then sides seamed, edges hemmed.  Pocketed, a sash instead of buttons, I plan to dye it indigo.
Created for April who described it from a coat she tried on in New York city last May.

Garments are for our outsides but they reflect our insides.

Her costumes

My lucky grandboys have a mom who makes them animal suits for Halloween.  She asks them what they want to be, and then adjusts a basic pattern to their whims.  Made from fun fur, these costumes are cozy and her family has built up an enviable collection.  This year we have Puppy (4 years) and  Raccoon (7 years).  (Raccoon carries his baby in his pouch.)
Oona started making costumes when she was quite young.  Above, spider, age 11.
From the same old photo album, a snap of Jay designing a not too scary face for the pumpkin.

While it's nice to look back on, I do not miss the Halloween hoopla.  Be safe and have fun everyone.

third meditation panel update

I have finally figured out how to join the nine narrow couched panels of the third meditation panel together. The method involves both machine and hand sewing. I am pleased with the result. More difficult was the decision to take out some stitches and fabrics and then re-stitch them. I really struggled with removing this work. I hope that those who helped put those stitches in won't mind some re-sewing this coming Thursday. Designing is hard work. The colours we used intuitively in the smaller parts were too bright when seen altogether. If this was a painting, the area would need to be re-painted. And it's not a waste of time. It's time spent doing something well. Until it's right.

work is a gift

Momstuff

The LaCloche show looks amazing, the prep for the wax workshop proved worthwhile, the opening went well, the place was packed, the word "different" was used to describe my work, two of my pieces sold, the brief talk I gave before the awards presentation is posted in my updates .

That was yesterday.

Today Grace wore this lovely brides-maid dress in Courtney and Scott's wedding.
I moved the zipper, took in four seams, shortened it by two and a half inches.
