NOT that the art object is inherently significant
meaningful or beautiful
BUT THAT the value
and meaning of art is actively constructed
by the viewer.

brings to mind the wise words of Lao Tsu from the Tao Te Ching
Thirty spokes share the wheel's hub;
It is the center hole that makes it useful.
Shape clay into a vessel;
It is the space within which makes it useful.
Therefore profit comes from what is there;
Usefulness from what is not there.
I'm guessing this is a new piece Judy - it is so beautiful. Very calming, both the colour and the stitching, I love it!
I believe in you, Judy. I love your work, your words, your spirit . . . . I easily, and happily, construct meaning when I see your work.
thank you for this quote dear Mo. I love it xo
Yes, I have been doing a little stitching over the summer. Lots of time in the sun and water though, and huge lovely times with the grand-kids and the regular-kids. I haven't got a title for this piece yet, but the emptiness in that drawn circle is so full of emotion for me - still figuring out why and what to call the quilt. Thanks for commenting xo
I'm not sure what the work means, I'm not sure what this post means, but everything is washed by sunlight, and time goes by so quickly and we had a birthday party on the deck and everything is beautiul. xoxo
i cherish every post of yours, it it very meaningful for me, thank you/
when you get there, there is no there there.

I love this xo
sweet heart, thank you xo
I landed here on August 24 after a seven week sojourn reading your blog a little bit every day. I tumbled (scrolled) down the beautiful cloth images (lingering and looking closer) and poetry and words about art and process and earth and road trips and snow and new lives showing up.
I entered my 7th decade last week and realized that I still have time for some stitching to come. I used to tell people that I loved quilting and hand-sewing but had no time in this life time to do any of that kind of work. I have heard myself say out loud that I would be a quilter in my next lifetime. Both you and Jude Hill (also read her entire blog like a book) have me threading needles and holding fabric in my hands. Today I mended, by hand, a new towel with an unraveled hem. And, I am stitching on mandalas I made on photoshop (from photographs), then had printed on fabric. Sending you deep gratitude today.
Oh my, you are very welcome. Thank you for this beautiful comment and encouragement.
In fact, you have rekindled my idea to make a book out of the judy's journal long history.
I am glad that you have discovered the serenity that a needle and some fabric can provide. Enjoy hand stitching xoxo
each cloth you create and share with us here sparks a sense of knowing in me ... a re-sounding "yes"
Thanks for telling me this Liz xo
