you will be softer

when you meet that person
a person
one of your soulmates
let the connection
relationship
be what it is
it may be five minutes
five hours
five days
five months
five years
a life time
five lifetimes
let it manifest itself in the way it is meant to
it has an organic destiny

that way if it stays or if it leaves
you will be softer
from having been loved this authentically
souls come into
return
open
and sweep through your life for a myriad of reasons
let them be who
and what
they are meant
the text in this post is a poem by nayyirah waheed

I started this unfinished quilt a lifetime ago,
it's very soft.

  5. I truly believe people come in and out of our lives for a reason
    I love the deer, there are a lot of them in my area but every time I see one I get excited
    Your quilt is lovely, the kind you want to wrap yourself up in with a cup of tea
    Have a good week!

  6. Perhaps in its 'unfinished' state, your quilt is finished. It is what it is. It is good that you are enjoying its beauty nonetheless.

  10. to answer Tina's question:

    For years I have been using bamboo quilt batting for my hand quilted art pieces as well as fro the bed quilts. I still use it a lot - it launders well, is easy to come by...not too expensive. Quilts nicely, has a soft hand.

    This quilt has bamboo in the middle.

    Lately however, I have put washable wool batting into some of my pieces. Wool batts make for ultra light yet warm quilts.

    I have not used cotton batting for quite some time. And I never use polyester batting.

    and about the post generally:
    I own SALT, the book of poems by the poet in this post and love it...for a while I read one or two every day. She is also on instagram....which is where I discovered her work.

    The deer...they come around and leave and come back...they are so gentle and soft, aren't they.

    Thank you for all comments. they mean a lot to me. xoxo

  12. Hello Judy .. thanks to your return post I am looking at going with a lightweight washable wool. I'm hoping that it is not to pesty of me to now ask about quilting treads. This is a bed quilt that I am hoping will bring my sister years of comfort...
    Knowing she is wrapped in the love and spirit that went into this quilt celebrating her 60th birthday. Thank you again for all the info on batting. It seems that Hobbs is a brand name that keeps coming up ... have you used this brand?
    Oh lordy lordy I am full of questions. Sorry. I have only once hand quilted and it was a wall hanging.
    Thanks again .... Tina
