Installed

Mended World, the second panel of the Manitoulin Circle Project was installed in Little Current United Church sanctuary yesterday. This is a really heavy quilt. The amount of thread in the many seams and in the dense quilting adds to the natural weight of recycled linen damask table cloths that are the main fabric. We've invented a canvas sleeve that is attached only to the top edge of the quilt so that it doesn't pull on itself. It's then hung 6 inches out from the wall from brackets. The natural light through the church windows makes it difficult to get a good photo of this intimate minimalist art work. Thanks again to my husband, Ned, for the time he's given to the project. Meanwhile, work was being done on the third and fourth panels in the church hall. All welcome.

  1. When all the panels are installed, can we all come visit your church...just to see the exquisite art? Would that be wrong?

  11. It must be satisfying to see this piece hung...you (and Ned) have been instrumental in getting this happening.
I can imagine the weight (and the drape) as it hangs.

  24. I do agree too that it is a lucky congregation, but very wise, as well because they have chosen your work.

Apart from the concept, the beauty of the stitches and the textures, I am amazed at how perfectly it sqared and flat it hangs. It doesn't seem easy in such a big work!

    Congratulations!
