Since I am in Kingston, I took the opportunity to visit this quilt today at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre. Jennifer Nicoll, manager of the collections allowed me to borrow white gloves and a measuring tape and have a good look at it. It's a remarkable example of a log cabin, made from these wonderful embroidered ribbons {called gimp} with satin and velvet central squares. Anonymous, Ontario, 1900.
Hi Judy,
ReplyDeleteJust thought I'd catch up now we are between semesters. Love the blog lately and there's nothing quite like doing a real hands on with pieces - you feel that direct contact with those who have gone before. I've arranged to do some research into 20s clothing at a local(ish) museum in early Feb and I can't wait. Hope you are keeping well. Chris
