these words from my studio wall

I've been doing a huge amount of reading, working on my dissertation proposal. To help figure things out, I've put words and phrases up on the wall but everything is still a haze.

ancient memory
the invisible
time is a material
nostalgia
every day life provides authenticity

Aristotle didn't talk about fear of mice. He went straight to the greatest universal fear, the fear of imminent death, like a passenger in a sinking ship.

uncanny
what lies beyond nature?
traditional technique embraced and transcended
nature's open space, yearning for light
silence

  1. I don't mean to be out-of-touch, but what dissertation are you working on and what is your subject, a huge endeavor whatever the goal.

  2. Hi Judy, I'm visiting your blog for the first time... and finding a lovely peace here. Your work is beautiful, I love the photos of the cottage... and am inspired by your word list. I feel a kindred spirit here. I'm going to continue my exploration of your world, thanks!

    letter
    to judy

    time
    woven
    worn
    rewoven
    sewn

    dark edges
    raveled
    into where
    any edge
    might
    open

    threadbare
    unbuttoned
    dyed
    a deeper
    and already
    faded
    blue

    sky meets
    sea meets
    shore
    and
    our hems
    soaked
    and
    much
    later
    dried
    salten
    crusts

    handwashed
    our garments
    and
    our skin

    she left
    the feather
    and
    the puka
    braided
    into her hair

    i stirred
    the chowder
    and
    in my mind
    designed
    the patchwork
    and
    bindings
    needed to survive
