indigo moon

This is a brand new embroidery - made as a sample for slow stitch class.
I am teaching the stitches that we used in the manitoulin circle project.
Here:  couching, pearl-bead basting, and eyelet stitch.  Also curved seams.
I was so surprised when I placed this little moon on a runner made last spring for april's wedding, I had to drop everything and reverse-applique it in place.

Slow stitch is a gift on many levels.

The low contrast texture of the embroidery is so lovely on your moon. I would like either of those runners on my table.

Oh but I could never use these other than to drape them and watch the light that illuminates what is already so luminous.

I think that these are art pieces, and the moon in each is high, like it is when we look at it up there in the sky. I like to think about how we all watch the same moon.
I like to think about how women and men before us looked at the moon...and wished on it, and that it disappears and returns and is always there.

They aren't finished yet - but am so excited, I thought I'd show them here anyway, as a start. Something new and something old at the same time.

Beautiful Judy. I'm glad you decided they'll be art pieces rather than table runners. Your thoughts on us and those who have come before all looking up at the same moon is lovely. Brava!

Both are great, but I think I relate to the dark patchwork one more. All those hints of shapes in the dark - I could get lost in it.
