Lucky Protection

Lucky Protection, muslin and cotton, reverse applique, hand quilted, 2011, 39" x 42"
Lucky Protection, reverse side, hand embroidery
Oona brought Jack's baby quilt home when the family was here for Christmas so that I could borrow it for my exhibition at Artists on Elgin next week.  click here for information
I finished it in 2011.  All the other pieces have been made since - most during the last few months. I'll show some of them over the next few weeks.

I am intrigued by how you kept to your own style even making a child's quilt, meant to be utilitarian...no pattern, no "matchie-matchie"....I have yet to be that courageous.

I can see why you want this for exhibition. The work in it is so gorgeous and beautiful

Oh my, I love this. I am stunned by your work at each viewing and re-viewing. Your current show at the Sudbury Art Gallery has me inspired to weave and try my hand at couching. I am not a weaver, and I was blown away by how you achieved "weaving" with stitching!! I have also used linen stitch in knitting to achieve a woven look, but this would not be practical in a larger scale. I am very much looking forward to the Artists on Elgin show :)

Lucky baby ... ;>]

I remember this one, how you enjoyed working the reverse appliqué. History in the making, it was ... and then you finished it, gave it away and now it's returned for another mission. Good evolutionary circles, yes?

What comforts and delights me is how you continue to use circles in squares (and is the reverse appliqué technique you use?) in such diverse ways to create quilts that are consistently stunning. xo
