written about

"As a highly tactile form, quilts maintain some of the intimacy their production inheres.  The finished panels inspire reflection on the many hands that assisted in their production. In this respect, the meaning of The Manitoulin Circle Project is as much about the participatory process of making as it is about the more abstract imagery each panel presents.  Thus community, as a value and as a spatial concept, becomes linked to other notions of time, place and environment conveyed in more material and imagistic ways. "

text by Dr. Elizabeth Kalbfleisch
from page 3 (of 9) of the essay she is writing for the Mended World Exhibition catalogue

I'm am thrilled to have a scholar write about this work.

Your community of hands is intimacy at an elemental level. Shared like that the singular circle becomes all circles, linked by the universality of that shape.

This is an unusual and beautiful quilt. Who made it? How was it made?
