resisting time's erasure

I laid out my daily stitch journal on Little Current's waterfront boardwalk over the weekend. Although it was a sunny day, I placed it in the cast shadow of the post office building so that I could photograph it from my studio window. My studio is above the post office. The window right above the sign is mine, also the one to the immediate right. They give ample north light all day long. The panels got a little damp and snowy. I laid them out on the table to dry out for a day.
Remember that a journal is a unit of space, it's the surface area a farm labourer can work in a day.

Your journals are exquisite. I always enjoy seeing them, but this time is even more wonderful with them all laid out creating such a lively and colorful line.

What a great spot for a studio! Love the view.

Your 'units of space'--each 'surface area a --- laborer can work in a day' (though you may do more), the varied expression of that simple idea, executed with precise and visible steps, like ritual, seem to set the world right. The long line in the snow reminds me of works like Christo and Jeanne Claude's "Running Fence", yours an allusion, not to crossing boundaries but to documenting days and home making. Setting it in the context of the larger world outside by placing it next to a water course, it becomes a path within the landscape, a part of that story. I really like it very much. I like it too, in the basket when it's indoors.

"unit of space", marking time, marking space, marking a woman's life.

afterthought: if this isn't Art I don't know what is......and maybe I don't even want to label it(I'm thinking 'bout your post on the c word)but this is just so, so good, because it just is, like a stream or a cloud or the air we breathe, and need, what you are creating here Judy, is what we need.
